The Parishes of Gulval and Madron seek to know, understand, care for and support the communities and the environment that we love and serve in the name of God.

Welcome to our website from the parishes of Madron with Heamoor and Gulval. We hope you can find your way around easily, and if you are in the area, we would love to see you, especially for a service.

The parishes of Madron and Gulval run across the top and sides of Penzance (rather like a good head of hair). The two parish churches are Medieval granite churches linked with the Celtic saints which gave the villages their name. St Thomas, Heamoor is a mission church from the end of the Victorian era. It is easy to miss it, surrounded by houses and at the lowest point of the village which is now a suburb of Penzance.

** We are closed until further notice due to Coronavirus restrictions, but are issuing newsletters and service sheets for you to use at home each Sunday. You can find them under ‘Weekly Notices’ in our Events drop down menu and under our ‘audio’ section you can hear Bridgit, our Madron organist, singing and playing hymns for the week **

What we do

We aim as a staff to present Jesus in such a way that people put their trust in him and grow in that faith. Our services are a mixture of old and new, sung and said, so that hopefully there will be something for everybody. We use a home-produced book for communion (Common Worship) and laminated cards for Family Service, Baptism and Family Communion. We also have large-print versions of these and cards for Morning and Evening Prayer and Holy Communion from the Prayer Book (NB These are the services marked ‘trad’ under the separate church service times and descriptions. Surprisingly, we are one of the few churches in the area that now offers Prayer Book services on Sundays and midweek.)

As well as our regular services we have house groups meeting in school term time, social and fundraising events and special times for church opening.

Children are welcome at all of our services; ones with Family in the title are shorter and more accessible, featuring more contemporary music and visual sermons (power point at Heamoor). Madron has a children’s area with soft toys, books etc for younger children. Our 3rd Sunday Family Service at Heamoor lasts from 10am to 10.30am and is probably the most child-friendly of all that we offer.
